Suusamyr valley is located in 130 km south-west from Bishkek and is very popular for its beautiful nature among tour destinations in Kyrgyzstan. It occupies an area of 4,000 sq. kilometers and takes places at the height varying from 2,000 to 2, 600 meters above sea level. The valley is surrounded by three mountain ranges of Tienshan: from the north is embraced by Kyrgyz Ala-Too range, from south-east by Jumgal-Too range and from the south-west by Suusamyr-Too. To get to this place you will need a private car with driver or better option, you can rent a car in Bishkek.
The climate in the valley is sharp continental, which means that in winter it can be 26-30 degrees below zero and in summer up to 20-25 degrees Celsius. Almost six months a year the mountains are covered with thick powdery snows which create perfect conditions for skiers and snowboarders. In summer the valley is covered with thousands of colorful flowers and grass which beautifully play in sun reflections, while at the night it can even frost. Suusamyr valley is the best jailoo, summer pasture for locals who stay here in yurts to farm the domestic livestock, as did their ancestors centuries ago.
If you booked a tour in Kyrgyzstan, Suusamyr most likely will be visited during the transfer from Bishkek to the south of the country or on the way to Son Kul lake (the second largest lake in Kyrgyzstan, at an elevation of 3, 000 meters). You can also rent a car and make stop here and stay overnight in one of the touristic yurts on the way.
