Today you will have a great opportunity to have a tour in Alzhir. Alzhir is an abbreviation meaning Akmola camp of wives of traitors of the Motherland and also a place that has ruined many destinies. The camp existed on the territory of Kazakhstan during the Stalin’s period of repression which lasted from 1938 to 1953. Today, this camp is used as a museum-memorial complex in memory of the victims of "ALZHIR". This museum is located 40 km to the west of the capital of Kazakhstan. You can easily reach it by using car for rent.

The first sending of women with children took place on January 10, 1938, and only six months later the area of 30 hectares was crowded. The first one who came here was incredibly difficult since Alzhir was not suitable for spending the winter, but in addition to it, people here were forbidden to contact with the outside world.

After some time, in May 1939, an order was issued to lift the ban on contacts with the outside world. But it did not make life easier; people still worked for 12-15 hours a day and froze in the same huts. In April 1951, an order came to release pregnant women and women with children. With the death of the Stalin in 1953 the camp was closed but was completely destroyed only in 1958-1960.

It is sad part of the history that we all need to remember. And it is important to have a tour at such place to learn more about things that happened once with the car for rent.
