The State Museum of Turkmenistan is considered to be the largest state museum of Turkmenistan, found in the early 1990s. There is paid fee as well as discount. The museum is closed on Tuesdays.
According to the decree of the President of Turkmenistan No. 3479, the National Museum of Turkmenistan in a result uniting the beforehand working Museum of National History and Ethnography of Turkmenistan and the Museum of Fine Arts of Turkmenistan on January 5, 1998. The museum was opened on November 12, 1998. There are different galleries dedicated to the history, modern culture and ethnography of Turkmenistan.
If you enter, you will find over 130 thousand exhibits as well as archaeological sites from the old Nisa and Ancient Merv. There are collections of old Turkmen carpets, rare examples of national clothes and fabrics, items of traditional life, precious metal products, weapons, awards and others.
The museum has three floors, where two of which consist of the history of the development of Turkmenistan, starting from the day President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov.
The museum is located Archabil Avenue, after the declaration of independence of Turkmenistan. The total area of the museum is about 15 thousand square meters. In 2009, the museum was rebuilt by the Turkish company “Polymex”.
