Tour 4: Tour to Kalai Khum via Pamir

In short: Dushanbe – Hissor – Dushanbe – Khoburubot – Kalai Khum – Khorog – Kalai Khum – Norak – Dushanbe
Day 1: Dushanbe – Hissor – Dushanbe
The guide and driver will meet you at the airport to begin your travel. On the day of arrival you will have a guided city tour in a capital city of Tajikistan. You will visit Rudake Park, National library, White House, National state seal, and House of parliament. Dushanbe has the highest flagpole in the world located at the National Park. The city tour will be completed with an excursion in Cebtral Museum. Then you will drive to ancient Hissor fortress. The fort is located along the Khanaka River, in Hisor Valley. Not much of the original fortress passed the test of the time. Once it was the residence of Bukhara khans. On the thick walls surrounding it there are the loopholes for guns and cannons. The oldest surviving part is the arched gate with two towers. Inside you can see the pool and caravanserai. Madrasa I Kuhna and Mahdumi Azam Mausoleum were built later as an addition to the Old Mosque. Then you will have a drive back to Dushanbe. Night is in a hotel.
Day 2: Dushanbe – Khoburubot – Kalai Khum
Today you will be transferred to Kalai Khum village to start the travelling today. It is a small village on the river Panj, near the border with Afghanistan. The road goes along the Western Pamir Tract, through the Khoburubot Pass. The pass is 3252 meters high. You will drive through the charming valley with stunning gorges in the terrain. Along the way there will be small villages, where you can meet the locals. Tajiks are well known for their hospitality and openness. They are preserving their traditions and folklore from ancient times. This tour will introduce you to ethnic and cultural diversity of the area and the beauty of the wild nature. You will spend the night in a home stay and see the lifestyle of the locals.
Day 3: Kalai Khum – Khorog
In the morning you will continue your way to Khorog. It is a tiny city surrounded by rocky mountains from all around. Khorog is the administrative center of the Gorno-Badakhshan region and the only city in the Pamirs. The two rivers merge from the east and flow through the city, dividing it almost evenly until its delta in the Panj river, also being known as Amu Darya. The majority of the population are Pamir people. You will see the difference between Tajik people and Pamiris. They have blonde hair, fair skin and blue eyes. Living in the isolated city high in the mountains, their traditions are also different. Night is in a guesthouse.
Day 4: Khorog – Kalai Khum
Today you will take a drive back to Kalai Khum village on the same road as previous day. The area of Khorog consists of high rocky mountains over 6 000 meters and there is only 1 road leading back to Kalai Khum. the mountains of the Pamir have always stirred minds. Sharp peaks seemed unattainable, deep rocky gorges - impregnable, winding roads heading to the clouds - unreliable. You will have a lot of photo stops to capture the beauty of the magnificent area. And also you will have an opportunity to learn more about the life of the locals and communicate with them during your tour in Tajikistan. Overnight is in a home stay.
Day 5: Kalai Khum – Norak – Dushanbe
Today you will head over Dushanbe. The road goes along the Afghanistan border. You will overcome the Shuraba pass, which is 2267 m high. These uprising mountain peaks remember the Persian Kings, the mysterious Bactria and the Troops of Alexander the Great, Tamerlan and Bobur, Marco Polo and dozens of pioneers of pioneers of glacier and mountain exploration. Although you have learned much more about the Pamirs, but will not stop being surprised at its beauty and diversity. Here the spirit of adventurism wakes up in every person. Pyanj river forms the natural border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan. You will drive past the Norak water reservoir. The locals call it the Tajik sea. Night is in a hotel.
