Nur-Sultan

Nur-Sultan is the capital of Kazakhstan which was named in honor of the first president of the republic – Nursultan Nazarbayev. The city is located in the north of the country, on the banks of the Ishim River. This is one of the most favorite places among tourists and also the most popular among tours in Central Asia. The ancient name of the city - Akmola was rich in endless steppes where the nomadic Kazakh people were engaged in cattle breeding and agriculture through caravan routes. Later, the city was renamed – Akmolinsk and served as the main asset of the commercial center. In 60s, the city received a new name – Tselinograd then still returned to the old name – Akmola. 

In May 6, 1998, the city again received a new name – Astana, meaning "capital", during reign of Nursultan Nazarbayev. After his resignation, the new president of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokaev, signed a decree on renaming Astana in honor of the country's first president, Nursultan Nazarbayev on March 23, 2019. Thus, the city received the name – Nur Sultan
