Nur-Sultan is the capital of Kazakhstan which was named in honor of the first president of the republic – Nursultan Nazarbayev. The ancient name of the city - Akmola was rich in endless steppes where the nomadic Kazakh people were engaged in cattle breeding and agriculture through caravan routes. In May 6, 1998, the city again received a new name – Astana, meaning "capital", during reign of Nursultan Nazarbayev. After his resignation, the new president of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokaev, signed a decree on renaming Astana in honor of the country's first president, Nursultan Nazarbayev on March 23, 2019. Thus, the city received the name – Nur Sultan
